Laurel Nicholson's Death & Resurrection Doula Training Program is more than an end-of-life doula certification & training course. Laurel provides a nurturing, faith-based environment to prepare individuals for the sacred work of supporting others through the end-of-life process.
What is a doula? Doulos is an ancient Greek word meaning servant or one devoted to another. In the Christian tradition, it reflects service rendered in Christ by faith.
Becoming a Christian end-of-life doula is more than a profession—it's a calling. This unique program will empower you with the skills and confidence to provide holistic support to individuals and families during life's most profound transition.
As a trained Death & Resurrection Doula, you'll provide crucial support to those facing terminal illness. A doula is trained to provide spiritual counsel, emotional stability, and practical guidance through companionship, holistic comfort care, death vigils, legacy projects, and more.
Death & Resurrection Doula services are rooted in the love of Christ and hope of resurrection. Many graduates share that the experience not only prepared them to serve others—it brought profound healing and renewed faith.

Online Workshops & Community Builder Mentors are integrated into this self-paced course. Get the attention you need to build a successful ministry!

This program incorporates Biblical teachings, prayer, and the theology of death and resurrection.
Philippians 3:10

Upon completion, participants will earn their death doula certificate, opening doors to serve in ministry, healthcare, or private practice.

"Martin Luther once said God's schoolhouse is suffering because this is where the Word of God moves from simply our ears and lips into our hearts. I have known Laurel for over 10 years and in that time I have seen her being shaped by suffering and the Word of God move deeply into her heart. This has made her a kind and compassionate person. When one is visited by death, and we all will be, both the family and dying need to not only be cared for but assured that Jesus has triumphed over death, and in him life does not end but is changed to something far more glorious. When Laurel lived in New York City, I saw her bring all these characteristics to the dying's bedside and be an instrument of such peace. I cannot recommend her ministry enough."
~ The Reverend Jacob A. Smith, Rector of Calvary-St. George's Episcopal Church, NYC
“This is a wonderful ministry, a gift to both Church & world. The hope of resurrection is so much more than a vague ‘afterlife’: it is the reaffirmation, in God’s ultimate New Creation, of who we really are, body, mind, & spirit. The comfort of this promise reaches back into the darkest moments we humans can face. Thank God for those who bring this comfort where it is needed most.”
- Anglican Bishop & author of Surprised By Hope, N.T. Wright

There is a complete scope of practice for end-of-life doulas. This includes companionship, end-of-life care planning (including vigils), holistic comfort care (non-medical), creating legacy projects, engaging the family & community in support.
Laurel Nicholson developed this training program after seeing the need for end-of-life care support in community following many years in parish work and subsequently training in a secular doula program. Laurel has established senior & healing ministries in her church, and she holds a B.S. in Business Administration and a Master's degree in Christian theology.
Laurel considers her training to be the first and only Christian training. While some programs claim a connection to the Christian faith, they appear to fall short in the fundamentals of God's Word. The Death & Resurrection Doula training program upholds the message of the cross, repentance, and God's solution to the problem of death through his Son, Jesus. Laurel's training follows the same scope of practice as secular programs, although the True Christian message is contained in every lesson. Laurel's curriculum is supported by the contributions of field professionals in nursing, theology, chaplaincy, estate law, healthcare ethics, and burial practices.
Doula practice is not a regulated field although having a certification is a good idea for safety and professionalism. Most often, families will hire an end-of-life doula. Hospice agencies, churches, funeral homes & cemeteries, and LTC facilities are now recognizing doulas as an integral part of the team.
The Death & Resurrection Doula Training program is self-paced and can be started at anytime. The program price includes access to live classes & small group mentorship. 6 months to 1 year is adequate for completion. Through the Collaboration Association, Death & Resurrection Doulas may continue with education and support as long as they wish. Community Builder Mentors are formed through training and make membership a special experience!
The death positive movement is a secular philosophical movement concerned with embracing death as a natural part of life. While the movement has many positive features, Christians will quickly be disenfranchised by its New Age & progressive feel. The Death & Resurrection Doula Training is a movement within the movement. Reclaiming the Biblical truth regarding death while emphasizing the importance of being prepared.
